Installation Instructions for RK
Detectable Warning Mat
Total time required to install
mat and open to pedestrian
traffic -- 30 minutes.
Remove all
dust/debris from the area where
the mat is to be installed.
Place the mat in the
desired position. Any required trimming is
easily done with a sharp pair of scissors.
With the mat in the
desired position, outline the mat with 2"
tape. (Duct tape works best as it is the
strongest and will be easiest to remove) The
tape should be no more than 1/16" from the
mat. DO NOT get the tape under the mat
(Figure 1)
BE SURE to clean the
back of the mat with a mild solvent such as
alcohol or acetone. (Figure 2).

Use a 3/16" V-notch
trowel (Figure 3) to evenly distribute the
adhesive dispensed from tubes in a caulking
gun (Figure 4). BE SURE all edges and
corners are fully coated - one reason for
the tape. A 2' x 4' mat requires
approximately 25 oz. of adhesive (more if
the pavement is extremely rough). Adhesive
is provided by Road Kare in 10 or 28 oz.
tubes.
