Installation Instructions for Detectable Warning Mat - Inset Model

The inset model (IDW2x2) is designed to be installed into wet concrete. Each mat is 2'x2' square and 1/4" thick (nominal). The mat has 9 molded in anchors with 1/4-20 thread. 9 1/4-20 x 1" stainless steel screws are supplied with each mat to attach to the anchors and will secure the mat to the wet concrete.

We recommend purchasing a reverse pattern handheld installation tool (IDWIT) from Road Kare International to simplify accurate and uniform placement of inset mat (see photos below.

IDENTIFY INSTALLATION LOCATION
ADA inset mats must be set into position on wet concrete as soon as surface finishing has taken place.

INSTALL THE ADA INSET MAT
Fasten the nine supplied 1/4-20 x 1" long stainless steel pan-head screws into the molded-in anchors located in each mat. Lay the inset mat with fasteners facing the concrete onto the surface of wet concrete. Using the installation tool, match up the truncated domes on the ADA inset mat with the reverse dome pattern on the installation tool. Apply even pressure with the tool using a side to side motion to push the mat into the wet concrete until the top of the mat is approximately 1/16"  from concrete surface (see photo below). Wipe off any concrete residue from inset mat before it can dry on mat. Protect site and allow concrete to cure.
